Strength in Numbers: Adding Partnerships to Your Franchise

The rough and tumble road of beginning a franchise venture does not need to be traveled alone. Finding a partner for your investment in a franchise is probably the wisest choice one can make, helping you distribute the burden of maintaining and producing your product with consistency and quality.

When I refer to partnership, I do not necessarily mean starting a business with another person. Rather, I am referring to situations that will arise when your customers will request products or services that you may not be able to provide at the moment. This is where partnerships come into play. If you make agreements with other companies that will provide you with materials and labor resources you may not otherwise have immediately available to you through your parent corporation, your customer base will expand almost immediately. But there are a few things that need to be taken note of before attempting to partner-up with other establishments, risk that should be avoided as you attempt to improve your operations.

First, you should gain background information on these other establishments as you would any prospective employee. Get their references and past performance records to see if they have a business model that has been proven effective and can only add to your own establishment’s performance.

Second, even if you find a partner that seems promising, make sure to scour the available pool of potential candidates until you are positive that you have found the best of what is out there.

Lastly, do not accept your candidate immediately. Given them a trial period to see if they are up to scratch and can provide the services they assured you they were capable of contributing.

This may seem to be long process and more responsibilities to worry about in the long run, but the long term will show that your profits have expanded as the number of services and products demanded by your clients become available to them. There is strength in numbers, as is commonly said, but be wise in who you add to your ranks.
