Jimenez Gonzales Bello Valdez Caluya & Fernandez finds its roots in the law office founded in 1951 by Jose P. Bengzon, a former Secretary of Justice and Commissioner of Immigration of the Republic of the Philippines. Potenciano Villegas Jr. and Isidro C. Zarraga were his first associates. Jose F. S. Bengzon Jr. joined the legal staff six years later. In 1961, Jose P. Bengzon was recalled to government service as Chief of the Philippine Reparations Commission to Japan, and the partnership of Bengzon Villegas & Zarraga was formed. Jose P. Bengzon was later appointed Presiding Justice of the Philippine Court of Appeals and, subsequently, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, where he served until his retirement in 1968. Thereafter, he returned to private law practice as Of Counsel to the law firm he founded. Through the years, our Firm has grown steadily as more legal minds with expertise in diverse fields joined and enriched the partnership.

Today, Jimenez Gonzales Bello Valdez Caluya & Fernandez or JGLaw has a legal staff of around 35 lawyers, a middle-sized firm by Philippine standards, providing a full range of legal services to local and international clients. In keeping with our tradition of providing efficient services to our clients and pursuing excellence in the practice of law, our firm recruits from the top ranks of law graduates, legal practitioners and those in government service. Among our roster of lawyers are law professors, certified public accountants, and leaders of various business, political socio – civic, and charitable organizations as well as Philippine and international bar associations.
