Am I Fit to be a Franchisee?

Getting to know yourself is just as important as learning more about your franchisor. While the latter is a more conspicuous way of preparing to own a franchise, evaluating yourself should also not be neglected. Do you really have what it takes to be a successful franchisee? Ask yourself the questions below to find out:

1. Do I have enough resources to keep my business running for a year?

Businesses don’t always go well, especially during the first year. Similar to a baby, you will need to be your franchise’s foundation, before it can stand on its own. You will need to invest a lot of effort, time, and most especially money – all of which with no guarantee of success. Are you mentally prepared to handle these kinds of risks?

2. Am I ready to work for myself, or would I rather work for someone else?

If you’ve been working for another person all this time, managing a business all by yourself can be overwhelming. Can you handle the responsibilities and the possible sacrifices that come with it? Would you be able to overcome failure should it happen? Would you feel more secure if you worked for someone else?

3. Am I ready to be a leader?

People will rely on you to define their jobs. They will need to know your expectations. They will need your instructions. While they can perform the tasks you assign to them, it’s your responsibility to direct them towards the goal you want to achieve.

Franchising is hardly a walk in the park. To make it successful, you need to keep yourself in check. What should balance the uncertainty and instability of a newly-opened franchise, is your resolute attitude towards it. So make sure you invest in yourself, as much as you do in the business.
